At Om Impex International, we believe that every home deserves a touch of nature’s beauty, crafted by skilled hands and woven with care. Founded in 2007, our journey began with a deep appreciation for the age-old art of handweaving and a commitment to sharing this timeless craftsmanship with the world. We specialize in creating eco-friendly, handmade carpets and rugs from natural materials like Jute, Water Reed, and other sustainable fibers.
But Om Impex is more than just a rug company—it’s a story of family, passion, and the power of community. Behind every rug is the dedication of artisans, most of whom are rural farmers and women, crafting these pieces with unmatched skill and precision. Our goal is not only to bring beautifully designed natural rugs to your home but to uplift and empower the communities that make this artistry possible.
Our Story​​
Om Impex International was born from a father-daughter dream. In 2007, we—Swati Daver and my late father—discovered the beauty of handmade rugs and carpets. What started as a small venture quickly grew into a mission to share these exquisite pieces of art with the world. Tragically, after the sudden loss of my father in 2017, I, Swati, took the reins and established OM Impex International as a sole proprietorship, determined to carry forward the legacy we started together.
Today, we work with a dedicated team of weavers and staff to provide our clients with the most beautifully designed handmade carpets, woven with care and tradition. Our weavers, many of whom live in the village areas on the outskirts of Kolkata, come from generations of artisans who have mastered the intricate process of rug-making.
Empowering Artisans & Supporting Communities
At the heart of Om Impex International is a deep commitment to the people who make our rugs. Most of our weavers are rural farmers, balancing their agricultural duties with their passion for weaving. Both men and women contribute to the craft, and we are especially proud to offer women in these communities the opportunity to work from home while managing their household responsibilities.
We ensure that raw materials are delivered directly to their doorsteps, allowing them to weave without needing to leave their homes. This flexible approach enables them to earn a sustainable living while also taking care of their families. Our model not only preserves traditional craftsmanship but also supports economic empowerment in rural India, providing job opportunities for those who need it most.
The production process is a collaborative effort—women prepare the initial braids for the rugs, while the men bind these braids to create the final product. This shared responsibility allows families to work together, fostering a sense of community and pride in their work.
